Alicia’s Klassic Kool Shoppe x New Chance
made for New Chance’s album Real Time by Victoria Cheong
I collaged with photographs from Vic’s grandfather’s bonsai and plant photo albums. The images in the albums were carefully and lovingly placed, including articles, photographs and newspaper clippings. The lines from the glue of the albums show through the pictures, a testament to time and it’s constant undoing. The images of the cereus night blooming flower offer an exciting and rare look at one of his plants which blooms only once a year, at night.
I made a limited edition naturally dyed colourway, using goldenrod gathered on Toronto Island and indigo flower. I was inspired by Vic’s lyric: What is real time but seeds and sunshine and a desire that’s so hard to manage? To me, goldenrod is the sun and indigo is the moon, crossing paths to create a soft emerald green referencing plants and the process of photosynthesis.
The second colourway features a gradient of violet, green and blue ink on soft cream shirts.
